The World’s Most Expensive Paintings

Talk also included a viewing of the BBC documentary The World’s Most Expensive Painting which addresses provenance.

The basic structure was a chart-style rundown of the 10 most expensive paintings ever sold at auction, with a top three consisting entirely of works by Picasso. The stories of the individual sales were fascinating enough in themselves – even if most of the buyers were unavailable for interview (not least because they don’t want us to know who they are). Taken as a whole, though, the program added up to a lot more than that.
